Augusta, GA, September 21, 2012 – Augusta’s Professional Contemporary Dance Company, Magnolia Dance Theatre is excited to bring to the CSRA, Natural Hair Stories: Building a Work of Art.  This will be an Evening of exploring and sharing hair stories, from women of all racial backgrounds, along with styling natural hair, health and wellness, and samples of healthy foods and drinks to refresh you.

Do you remember the sound and smell of your hair sizzling under a hot comb? The way you use to pat your head in hopes of it not burning during a relaxer? Do you remember when you transitioned or an event during your “Journey Back to Self” that stands out for you?  Do you have a story that made you think about transitioning into natural hair? THEN WE WOULD LOVE TO HEAR AND SHOWCASE IT IN OUR NEXT PRODUCTION (You do not have to be natural to participate)!!!!

Magnolia Dance Theatre will be setting a work based on hair stories from a diverse group of women! If you agree to participate please contact us ASAP, to attend a pre-meeting on what may be expected from your participation in this multidisciplinary Evening Showcase!  If you choose to share your story and participate in the Showcase, please be aware that you must sign a video release form.

  • Soul in your Bowl, owned by Denise Lipscomb, to discuss an alternative way to make your body healthy and happy while still enjoying every part of what you eat.
  • Natural hair stories told by women who have chosen to participate in Magnolia Dance Theatre’s Multidisciplinary Production!

Where do you see the Arts in August in the next five years?  All Artists are invited to bring their skills, and talents out to share with one another, connect to form future projects, and become a part of the New Generation Arts Movement. We would like to start doing onsite projects to enhance the arts throughout Augusta.  We need All Artist interested who might want to start implementing and develop further projects throughout the CSRA!

MAGNOLIA DANCE THEATRE AUDITIONS

Magnolia Dance Theatre is a professional pick-up Company with a vision to is to create a unique multicultural coalition of community leaders, civic institutions and arts organizations committed to building a community where the arts are accessible and inviting to all citizens. Through programming and partnership MDT will present diverse art forms and experiences that: Encourage excellence in dance Increase opportunities for all people to experience dance and the arts; exposing dance as an art form to audiences of varying socio-economic backgrounds, and provide an awareness and appreciation of diversity through representative works.

We are looking for dancers interested. You need to have a two minute solo with a resume and headshot (Functional Resumes are acceptable). All trained as well as non-trained dancers are welcome to audition.  Must be 16 years and older to auditions.
